Italian Dolomites Walking Holiday – Hiking around Plattkofel

Italian Dolomites Walking Holiday – Hiking around Plattkofel

Plattkofel (otherwise known as Sasplat or Sassopiatto) is the last mountain I was really, really hoping we could climb. However, when we awoke on our final walking day, we could see there was new snow and ice on Plattkofel’s peak. It was also pretty misty. I was still keen, but my husband Marc is more sensible. Italian Dolomites Walking Holiday – Rainy walk to Ortisei

Italian Dolomites Walking Holiday – Rainy walk to Ortisei

The one problem with holidays near mountains is you can NEVER predict the weather! Italian Dolomites Walking Holiday – First view of the Alpe di Siusi

Italian Dolomites Walking Holiday – First view of the Alpe di Siusi

It is the largest high-altitude alpine meadow in Europe.  This huge area of meadows is at about 1800m above sea level, which means even in summer it is slightly cool and full of spring flowers. Our next hotel was located Compatsch /Kompatsch so we needed to finish our day at 1844m above sea level. We didn’t really want to…
